With a population of approximately 49,000, Berryessa is a mid-sized neighborhood in Santa Clara County, offering residents a sparse suburban feel. The linear, 163-acre Penitencia Creek County Park also extends along the water, offering a 4-mile hiking/biking trail and a nature center, in addition to incorporating parklands and open space.
 
The Penitencia Creek County Park is also where the Berryessa Art and Wine Festival is held yearly. When it comes to local events and festivities, the Berryessa Art and Wine Festival is one of the most-attended and popular festivals. Running for more than 40 years, this spring event features hundreds of artist booths, food vendors, and plenty of entertainment for festival-goers to enjoy.
 
Those seeking recreational opportunities will find them in abundance at the Berryessa Community Center, a welcoming place providing a variety of quality services and programs for people of all ages. The center is also available for rentals, ideal for weddings, birthdays, baptisms, meetings, and more. Some of the most popular programs at the community center include summer camps, after-school programs, wellness classes, and special holiday events like Breakfast with Santa.
 

Schools

The Berryessa Union School District operates the neighborhood’s public schools, including two high schools, three middle schools, and ten elementary schools. Piedmont Hills High is one of California’s highest-ranking schools, earning the top rating of “blue” for several different programs. Piedmont also received recognition of being a California Distinguished school along with several other awards. Northwood Elementary, Majestic Elementary, and Morrill Middle are other schools of note in the area.
